Map of the Month 06/2014: Atlas of the World for the blind and visually impaired

At the 26th International Cartography Conference in Dresden, Germany, the “Atlas of the World for the blind and visually impaired” from Poland won the second jury prize in the category other cartographic products. The jury stated:

Rare and very usable product for an important user community.

Publisher’s Description: Latest publication of the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography, entitled "Atlas of the World for the blind and visually impaired". The Atlas contains 38 map sheets, divided into two parts. Part one is devoted to nature and socio-economic issues from a global perspective. It consists of 23 maps. The first 12 sheets are devoted to natural issues, the next 11 deal with socio-economic issues. Part two is the overview of regions, it consists of 15 sheets depicting relief and political division of continents. Appended to the atlas is a CD. Content of CD is: descriptions for all maps also in mp3 files, name indexes and other helpful information. The atlas is distributed free of charge among libraries on their written request.
