The development of Geographical Information Systems and the evolution of tools for managing spatial information, led to the rapid developments in the field of open source spatial databases (Open Source Spatially-enabled DBMS).

The paper explores the capabilities of the proposed system in managing spatial relationships between the geographical entities. The structure of the system has been designed using the UML while the implementation through commands for data structure generation. (DDL SQL, Data Definition Language SQL). The database management system used for the spatial data is PostgreSQL RDBMS.

A dedicated application for the representation and analysis of spatial and descriptive data from a hydrographic network has been developed to evaluate the system under real conditions.
