Map of the Month 5/2012: Grosser Kozenn-Atlas

At the 25th International Cartography Conference in Paris, France, the atlas “Grosser Kozenn” won the first jury’s prize in the category Atlases: educational cartographic resources. The jury stated:

Latest edition of the 150 years old school atlas which has been modernized continuously during its history, based on new insights in geography, cartography and education.

Publisher’s Description: “Grosser Kozenn-Atlas” is a new Austrian school atlas with an integrated CD in the tradition of one of the oldest school atlases in the world. It has been published for the 150th anniversary of the first edition. The most prominent features of this atlas are fine topographical maps with balanced colours, hill-shading and a wide range of modern and innovative thematic maps. The CD acts as a digital extension to the print atlas with a rotating globe and the possibility to generate thematic maps from statistical data.

The atlas is a product by Ed. Hölzel, an Austrian publishing house founded in 1844. The main products are atlases, textbooks, calendars and cartography. On the education sector Ed. Hoelzel is market leader for geographical products in Austria.
