Map of the Month 03/2016: Geological Textile

At the 27th International Cartography Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the cartographic product “Geological Textile” won the third jury prize in the category other cartographic products.

Publisher’s Description: Tokyo Cartographic is a leading cartographic solution providers that undertake the full range of cartography services worldwide over 50 years.

Geological Textile is a series of textile products that features the geological maps of Japan. In this series, we produce textile items of daily life with beautifully recolored geological maps, celebrating the unintended beauty which was brought by the geological features of Japan.

We have released textile products that feature two of the world heritage sites in Japan, Nikko and Fuji including Shrines and Temples of Nikko, and Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration. Each set of textiles has three color variations. In textiles of Nikko, bright colors inspired by spring in Japan are used, while camouflage colors are applyed in textiles of Fuji.
