At the 25th International Cartography Conference in Paris, France, the map “Hiking routes between Salmi and Oittaa (Nuuksio National Park, Finland)” won the second jury’s prize in the category Maps for Tourism. The jury stated:
Innovative experimental way of generating usable information about potential hiking routes between two popular entrances. Usable outcome despite the questionable application of the visual variable of colour.
Publisher’s Description: Experimental map representing potential hiking routes between two popular entrances, Salmi and Oittaa, to the Nuuksio National Park and the surrounding areas. In addition to the optimal route, the map reveals a number of nearly optimal routes between the entrances. The result is based on a terrain mobility analysis by using airborne laser scanning data, as well as the Topographic database by the National Land Survey of Finland.
The map was designed with ESRI ArcMap and Adobe Photoshop for the use of "Multi-publishing in supporting outdoor leisure activities" (MenoMaps) -project funded by Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation).
