THE OVERVIEW OF MODERN NATIONAL ROAD ATLASES

The view of 39 national road atlases of the largest publishers is made.

The spectrum of analyzed cartographic editions is founded on system approach, which is formed on principles:

- the atlases of different geographical territories are gathered;

- the atlases of the countries with most dense network of roads are examined;

- the atlases of the most well known world publishers are gathered;

- the atlases prepared by both state and private companies are examined in the view.

All atlases are exceptional actual and modern (1996 – 2007 years of edition).

The content, construction and design elements of the atlases are analyzed.

Some characteristic features of Russian road atlases are picked out.
