The paper describes one of the research problem undertaken during the realization of three years duration project related to the development of the conception of information system for collecting information about events and historical sources on the basis of Bible’s regions.  Database about geographical objects and their names constitutes one of the main part of proposed system.

Database about geographical objects and their names should allow for a wide use of names and geographical objects they are referring to. Most of all, database will give the possibility of using collected names (objects) for presentation of thematic phenomena described in the Bible. Therefore, it is important to join collected names with the context in which they occur in the Bible. It demands classification of names connected with geographical objects and with definition of attributes of these objects, which names will be collected in database.

It was noticed that both geographical names and names of geographical objects occuring in the Bible. To create database about the geographical names it should be decided what kind of elements (and in what way) should be gather into database.

The paper will describe the effects of analysis of names from the Old and New Testament from the above described point of view. As the result of this analysis the rules of classification, methods of collecting names from the Bible into database and  definition of their necessary attributes were defined. Paper describes both methodology and examples of proposed solutions.
