Abstract
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become very important in support of decision making in various fields of modern societies, allowing structuring and visualizing information spatially located in the territory: Information related to population growth, land use , topographic features, utility networks, among others. The Cadaster Department of Medellín city, knowing this reality began in the late 90’s to dabble in digital mapping with the structuring of digital city map. This started with the preparation of the base map scale of 1: 2000 for urban areas and 1: 5000 for the rural sector of the city, being the first step in structuring a Cadastral GIS for territorial management of the city. In subsequent years, next step was making the process of georeferencing cartographic and cadastral information contained non-digitally or CAD formats and performing GIS on ESRI platform. Although the structure of the cadastral GIS, called Cadastral Geodatabase, from the year 2008, it was perceived the need to evolve dimensional mapping system, based on the coordinate plane, to a system that gives a better reflex of physical reality of the property of the city, incorporating the height coordinate and time as fundamental elements of cadastral model. So that the volumetric representation of the cadastral information is there. This study describes the elements that have been incorporated into the model of cadastral data for the three-dimensional representation of the properties registered in the cadastral survey of Medellín, and their evolution over time.
