At the 25th International Cartography Conference in Paris, France, the atlas “Hong Kong Street Map Series 1:10 000” won the first jury’s prize in the category Maps and Plans of Towns and Urban Areas. The jury stated:
Black & white map demonstrating that for a clear design the use of colour is not always required.
Publisher’s Description: This monochrome 1:10 000 Street Map series comprises 59 sheets to cover the whole territory of Hong Kong with contours at 20m interval. It contains a great deal of information including public facilities, buildings, roads and topographical details. Each sheet of this print-on-demand series is revised annually. Hong Kong is a densely populated city with rapid development in urban areas and new towns. To portray a large volume of geographical information as faithfully as possible within the limitations imposed by scale is indeed a real challenge to cartographers. This map series depicts almost a hundred different types of natural and man-made features with elaborately designed point, line and areal symbols.
