Ron Furness is internationally known for his work in hydrographic cartography, and has made an outstanding contribution to ICA as Chair of the Commission on Marine Mapping.
He successfully convened the CoastGIS series and has been an active participant in many ICA functions.

The Executive Committee of the International Cartographic Association (ICA), by virtue of the power vested in it by the statutes and by-laws, hereby elects Don Pearce as an Honorary Fellow in recognition of his successive capacities as organiser of the ICA Congress in Perth, Australia. 1984, as Secretary-General and Treasurer and as Vice-President of ICA with cartographic activities all around the globe requiring extraordinarily personal efforts.
