Abstract
Adapt speech to the recipient is a classic strategy in communication theory for a message to be well understood. Map is a communication medium that can be adapted to end-user but it is rarely true in French flood risk management. This paper presents an empirical study for improving evacuation maps in a context of flood risk evacuation management by using an end-user centred approach in two steps. First, end-users define their profile and build their favoured maps. Then, these maps are tested with eye-tracking and questionnaire to see if maps created from end-users' needs and preferences are more efficient than classical flood management maps elaborated with a regulated and standard cartographic way.
