Abstract
This paper is linked to the Project: “Cartographic Involution of Rio de Janeiro State”, developed by the Laboratory of Cartography (GeoCart), of Geography Department of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. It aims to establish a reverse cartography of the state political-administrative division, at the level of municipal division, since the current moment, until the date of 1565, when was really begun the colonization. It is sought to present a historical vision of the cartography of the State, settling down on time, their municipal divisions. The project, in a general way possesses an aspect entirely faced to Historical Cartography and toponymy, and will be possible to portray the several political moments, inside of its municipal evolution. The project was restructured once it was not considered some factors like the change of names on the administrative divisions, even those relative ones to orthographic alterations. On the other hand the research developed on toponymy took to new discoveries, where they were associated to significant changes on the territory of several divisions. Initially the objective to buid from the current administrative system, earlier divisions, seeking obtaining the evolution and the genealogy of the municipal districts, it was verified the need to join the other factors, like the extinct municipal districts, toponymyc changes on the space, about the spelling and adverse situations. As examples can be mentioned the municipal districts of São José del Rey, São João Marcos, extinct, among other, the name change of Bom Jardim for Vergel and its return to the old name in 1943 and 1946 respectively, the suffered alterations for Nova Iguaçu, going by Maxambomba, Yguassu, Iguassu, Nova Iguassu and Nova Iguaçu. Relating to some adverse situations, the municipal district of Valença changes to Marques of Valença in 1943, losing the districts of Ipiabas and Conservatoria for Barra of Pirai, growing up a municipal district territorially divided by the municipal district of Barra do Pirai. This situation would be reverted in 1947, when Marques of Valença acquires the district of Conservatoria of Barra of Pirai, returning it to constitute a continuous unit. Each represented time possesses a structure of associated database, with the several socioeconomic information and another judged of relevance for the considered time. This structure will allow the connection between the cartographic documents and of each politician's division database, both administrative and on time. The objective of the work will be to generate the cartographic bases and associated database. On this first moment, the study will relapse on the period of 2001 to middles of the century XIX.
