Abstract
NEW PROPOSALS ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF MAPS TACTILE: SPECIALIZED MATERIALS INSTITUTE BENJAMIN CONSTANT Rosa, Patricia Ignácio da; Silva, Renan Ramos da; Arruda, Luciana Maria Santos de, Instituto Benjamin Constant Abstract. The knowledge is a right of every citizen. In Brazil, although there are provided legal provisions, democratic access to information is also a complicating factor. People with visual disabilities have different sensory ways and there are difficulties that can be minimized with the use of suitable materials. The Benjamin Constant Institute (IBC), through the Division of Research and Specialized Material Production (DPME), conducts research on educational resources that assist in teaching and learning of people with visual impairments. The results are distributed throughout the country for free. The study was conducted, in a qualitative aspect, in the difficulty of geography teaching for students with visual impairment in the context of inclusive education. The study was based on the needs identified by teachers in teaching of geography at IBC. Initially it were selected, expanded and suitable to the tactile perception images of maps of Brazil’s regions, concept to be mediated in the classroom. Later this initial preparation was analyzed and reworked from the observations and reports of teachers on the use of these materials, which resulted in a new proposal working. This work aims to publicize the study and the possible contributions that it can bring to the teaching of geography. The team responsible for producing, under the guidance of teachers, masters and teachers, started to prepare the materials. It brought the idea of Brazil’s Maps Notebook. This material was researched, developed and implemented at IBC, aiming also to the regular school system, and its main target audience is the visual impairments, but can also be used by people who do not have this feature. We hope, with this work, to contribute with the expansion of access to information, improving the teaching of geographic concepts and also contributing to a quality education.
