Abstract
Shade relief map is a kind of map which is used to represent the topographic characteristics. In the early atlas of the moon, due to the limited resolution of the map data, lunar shade relief map was usually made under a small scale( such as the global scale), which could only present the global large topographic characteristics. However, when we are carrying out the lunar real environmental exploration, these maps with a small scale, low resolution could only provide limited help, on the contrary, large-scale shade relief map with high resolution and more topographic details are more preferred. Compared to the situation under global scale, the lunar exploration objects are less the topographic waviness are smaller under large scale, which means it might be difficult to present the topographic details for the traditional shade relief map making method. To solve the problem, we took an experiment by using the Chang’E2(CE2) topographic and imagery data with a resolution of 7m ,developed an shade relief map making method based on the color set and image fusion to make map un-der a extent of 30km*30km, the result map shows that, this method is good for presenting the topographic details and might be useful for work in the lunar exploration area finding.
