Abstract
This article aims to discuss the Brasilian Rural Policies and the influ-ence that geotechnology and cartography have on them. Landholding cadasters or databases are very important for rural statistics, policy and infrastructure planning, economic incentives, management, tax charg-ing, land reform and other purposes. Currently, Brazil has two of them, which contain personal information of landholders and georeferenced data on the limits and environmental features of landholdings. They are analogous and show potential for integration, which would make better use of data and simplify procedures for rural producers. However some conceptual and technical differences must be compatibilized to allow integration.
