Abstract
The urban facility POI data describe a variety of engineering and social facility features(e.g., shops, restaurants, gas stations, banks), and those information is essential in people's daily life. With the development of internet technology , querying and analyzing the POI information through the network terminal such as PC, smart phone is becoming the daily behavior of ordinary people. In this context, the map-based mashup, integrating the road networks and blocks as background, and the POI data as foreground, has been developed as an essential service on the geographic information platform, like Google Map, OpenStreetMap. Due to the lack of suitable mechanisms for multi-scale visualization, however, the display of the POI data often result in the icon clustering problem with icons touching and overlapping each other. To overcome such drawback,a multi-scale visualization method which combines the classic methods of generalization and on-line environment has been developed in this study. Firstly, a hierarchical structure is designed in the server-side to organize the POI features in order of important, and scale index for every POI features is calculated under the guidance of the Radical Law; in the client-side, the POI features can be retrieved by the display scale and a real-time displacement model is used to resolve the local icon conflicts. Experiments show that this method can not only achieve the requirements of real-time online, but also can get better multi-scale representation of POI data.
