Abstract
This poster will look at the methods Ordnance Survey’s CartoDesign team use in Great Britain to create 2-dimensional stills of 3-dimensional landscapes without the use of 3D computer graphics programs: The output of which are some of our most popular images on our Flickr set. Using OS Terrain height products along with other overlay datasets, the poster will demonstrate a quick and simple process using QGIS and the Qgis2threejs plugin, and our preferred method using QGIS to prepare the data and esri ArcScene to produce the model. Examples will include both cityscapes, using building height attributes from OS MasterMap, and terrain landscapes. Both methods have export issues which will be discussed, and post-processing steps in conventional 2D graphics packages will also be shown.
