Abstract
The oil and natural gas exploration comprises the discovery and definition of the limits of deposits by seismic surveys and drilling wells. In Brazil this process is controlled by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels - ANP. In numbers this represents, for the month of June 2014, the management of 376 exploration areas and 430 production areas in activity in Brazil. The spatial evolution of the process must be controlled by the Agency: an exploratory block is offered in a public bid; part of it is retained for evaluation; if the commercial viability of the deposit is proved there is a declaration of a production field, if not, the block is returned. The objective of this work is to synthesize the business rules that define the evolution process of exploration activity based on the laws that regulate the activity and propose a data model that reflects the spatiotemporal nature of the process, helping the management of these data.
