Abstract
As one of the major disciplines within geospatial sciences cluster, cartography continues to grow along with the latest development of geospatial technologies. Following this, the one that should be fully concerned is about the competence of human resources whom applying all aspect of cartographic activities such as data collecting, data analysis, processing and manipulation, data presentation and visualiation and any others related, in both manual and digital manner. Competence, which includes aspects of skills, knowledge and attitude, in the field of cartography is becoming very crucial in the era of global competition, especially for Indonesia, which in 2015 will face the AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade Area), which means the human resources competency must be managed and standardized in preparation for Indonesia to face the influx of human resources from abroad in 2015. This paper will present the experience of Indonesian National Geospatial Information Agency (Indonesian: BIG, Badan Informasi Geospatial), a geospatial information organizing cum coordinating agency in formulating SKKNI (Indonesian national competency standards) in the field of geospatial information, sub-field of cartography which regulates a competency level of cartography workers when doing their duties or tasks.
